AREA OF GREATEST NEED: Mobile Meal Program
Before COVID-19, Morningstar Relief Mission served 250 meals per week, locally. Today we are serving nearly 1,100 meals per week, countywide, through our Mobile Community Meal Program. Morningstar currently rents the Lion’s Club Hall for our cooking, meal prep and storage as the kitchen at our Water Street location is awaiting renovation because of ageing infrastructure that no longer meets the municipality’s fire code.
In response to COVID-19 Morningstar has become the community kitchen for the County: a call to which we have responded, vigorously, but one that demands we continue to increase our donor base in order to be sustainable. Food insecurity is growing every month as the effects of the pandemic continue to be felt in rising food prices, rising rent costs, and declining mental health. We see the takeout meal program as foundational to the work of Morningstar Mission now and into the future.
